One could compare this latest V/A to a ‘flashback puzzle’ which gets together the very first remixers of the label and one Famille Electro’s clapman. Three scene shifters, determined to put the spotlight on house music and thus, providing an ‘EP Super 16 bits’ where movie glitches have been replaced by audio ones.
Opening sequence. The american DJ and producer ALTON MILLER, who has joined forces with George Baker and Chez Damien to start the Detroit club Music Institute, starts of with a slowed down pilot tone. With his houssy-jazzy track NEW SHIT, MILLER takes his audience into a cocoon-like atmosphere based on Afro-Brazilian rythms : the bassline evolves through warm pads and filtered synthesizers.
Transition sequence. Then comes the german DJ and producer JAMES FLAVOUR, who has chosen to provide a speeded up track. BODÖ combines together bright snares, kicks-claps, agile synthesizers, vocal sound effects and glitchy inlays.
Ending sequence. Disciple of the ‘Night for Night’ technique, FRED JOBB has concocted a track that draws its virility from industrial music. This minimalist dialogue writer metamorphoses loop sentences into special effects. THEN is a mixture of sparkling snares, ghosty voices, wide-angle bassline and sustained tempo.
This ‘electrollywoodian’ V/A pictures three ‘sound brothers’ sharing a common goal : hynotise the lenses of modern phonographs. Cut ! this written trailer and open up your ears to sounding pictures.
